Can anyone help me identify if my vines have this disease?
The symptoms are: they begin to leaf out, then some of the leaves start to
crinkle up and then the leaves and flower buds turn black, eventually
affecting most of the leaves on all of the 8 vines.
I was told it is probably botrytis and to douse them with fungicide. I did
this 2 years
ago and pruned them back severely, as was recommended, although I am loathe to
use chemicals. They were a bit better last year - now they're back to square
one. Today I doused them with bonomyl and pruned them back to 24" high.
I have some questions: Is this a losing battle? Do I have to use chemicals?
Will the
botrytis (if that's the problem) affect my roses, crab and apple trees and
perennials which are in the same bed? If I replant, can it be with lonicera
or if not, what? Will it spread to other beds/plants? What is botrytis and
how does it spread?
Any help will be most appreciated.
Thank you,
Joan Anderson
