Some ID help

Here are photos of 2 shrubs for which I9m looking for ID9s

The first is a type of dogwood (I9m pretty sure) which has been growing in
the shady rear of my yard for the past few years and has finally flowered.

The second is a shrub I encountered on a recent trip to Costa Rica.  It was
a good 3 feet across and the flowers were terminal and about 2 inch across.
