Don, the first looks like heptacodium miconiodes - the Seven-Son Flower. The calyxes should be showy and pink after flowering. If memory serves, the bark is of interest, too, peeling off like stewartia. I've no clue on the other, though I'd like to go to Costa Rica to find out.
