According to The R.H.S. New Dictionary most of the Jacobinias are now
Justicias. But Justicia coccinea has become Pachystachys coccinea and
Justicia suberecta Dicliptera suberecta. We grow all three out of doors
here on Mallorca but only just and under some cover from trees. D.
suberecta is a marvellous orange flowered shrub, 1 m. high with densly set
grey-green leaves.
J. coccinea is an upgrowing rather cane-like plant to 2 m. high with the
scarlet flowers at the end of the branches. J. carnea has pink mop-heads of
terminal tubular flowers, grows also up to 2 m. high but more spreading
than J coccinea. Their water needs seem slight and they all take well from
cuttings without seeming to worry too much about when. They flower for
months.
