We have a young chockeberry (Aronia arbutifolia "Brilliant") that is
covered with red fruits. Acer griseum, paperbark maple, has terrific bark
and is not to shabby the rest of the year, either. However, my all-time
favorite winter plant is the native sycamore. Nothing cheers me up as much
as the white branches of a sycamore against a cold blue winter sky.
