RE: Wanting winter interest plants

Hi Mark!

Belgian azaleas are the typical florists azaleas you can buy in your
nearest flower shop in flower RIGHT NOW. I'm lucky I can grow them outdoors
here in zone 9, humid (1500 mm.rain/year) oceanic climate. Find the white
and very pale colours suffer badly with wind and hail (when we got it). The
good thing about Belgian azaleas is that they do not flower at once as the
hardy ones (i.e.: kaempferi types) but they flower nicely over the months.
I got a plant that starts to flower in late September/early October TILL
April. That's what I call a good flowering plant. Ther are many varieties,
some very early, some extremely late. Albert-Elizabeth is a good example
for the latter, offering its gorgeous semi-double ruffled white bordered in
red flowers in late June/early July...
