Re: Rhodies


FWIW, what I've noticed over the years is that if you just prune one branch
back to really old wood, the branch likely to just die on you instead of
leafing out, but if you hat rack or otherwise hard prune a whole plant, it
will likely recover.

My totally unscientific theory on this is that, in the case of one branch,
the plant has other fully leafed branches to photosynthesize (did I spell
that right?) with and just abandons the pruned branch; whereas, if you hard
prune the whole thing, it either has to put out new growth from old wood or
die - and plants want to live.

Anybody else noticed this behavior?
