I don't notice any leaf miner damage, although the leaflets are
pretty small for it to be apparent. I also have mine planted next to
a garage and driveway, so there isn't much open area beneath it.
Here in SE Wisconsin, the borers seem to go for the birches, although
perhaps they are different species.
