Hi Mark,
I don't know if Elaeagnus pungens maculata is a reverting shrub:
I have two bushes of Eleagnus pungens with variegated leaves and
this year I have cut back every green-leaved shoot;
On variegated Myrtus communis this operation works well.
I'm waiting for the result....
