Comment on the plant list for Carol:
I have a white forsythia, which is in the list provided by Marge, and it
does not grow as the yellow forsythia does. Very few additional sprouts
from the ground, and you have to be very careful how you prune it -
after I pruned mine I expecting to get new sprouts at the base and
ended up with one twig and many branches. I do not believe that it
would provide the look Carol is searching for. I will say that it has
small delicate white flowers in very early spring before most other
shrubs or bulbs are flowering. They keep me from pulling it out :>
