Twas the night before Christmas and inside the house
I stare at my monitor and click on my mouse
The internet is humming with news from afar
With hope no bad will the season will mar
And she with her rake and me with my hoe
Are hoping next year our pumpkins will grow
The seeds are stored in the basement with care
To grow the worlds largest would surely be rare
And now as we lay here all snug in our beds
With visions of stem splits and end rot to dread
Will the soil be right, you're never quite sure
Did I use enough fertilizer, leaves and manure
I look at the garden but nothing to do
Until the spring when we start anew
The ground is snow covered so what does it matter
Can now only sit here and grow even fatter
Now with so much less lawn to mow
I ponder which seeds would be best to grow
Ciliberto, Anderson, Lloyd and Greer
The time to decide is getting so near
With any luck no pests will appear
No squash bugs, no beetles, no groundhogs, no deer
I'll soon work the ground with my old rototiller
My sprayer, my hose and a bag of bug killer
To grow a big pumpkin will be my goal
And have lots of fun at the next pumpkin bowl
To all of you growers both far and near
Merry Christmas to all and good luck next year!
