FW: Bernard

Dear Aroiders:

For those who don't know Frieda Billiet and her husband Bernard I wanted to say that Frieda was a participant in the 1999 International Aroid Conference in St Louis and was the aroid specialist at Miege near Brussels where the big botanical garden is located. I visited Frieda and Bernard several times and enjoyed their wonderful Garden in Limal south of Brussels. Bernard, though not an aroider was a wonderful, fun loving guy. May he rest in peace.

Dear Frieda:

What terrible news. I just recently got their Christmas Letter where you announced that Bernard had been being treated for cancer and I thought at the time that he might die owing to the severity you described but I am shocked that it happened so quickly. I too loved Bernard. He was a great guy. Since he did not speak English we conversed in Spanish and his Spanish was pretty good so we could carry on a nice conversation. He was such a fun-loving person and I am glad that I was able to know him. I am so happy that you and Bernard did all the traveling that you did when you were both still healthy and also that you retired early so that you could see the world. If you had waited until later to retire you would not have been able to enjoy all those wonderful trips together.

I am at a loss to know how to comfort you in these days of grief. Thank God you were there to hold him in your arms till the end. It makes me weep to think about it. I am praying for his soul and that you will again find happiness in your wonderful garden that you both worked so hard to make so wonderful. God bless you!
