Re: Alocasia pollen drop update

Thank you so much for that info. Neither plant seems to have set fruit. The amazonica is producing another flower. Are amazonica always hybrids that can't produce pollen? So I need a species then? How are new varieties produced in mass I wonder for the plant market? They must be pollinated by species and are not self- fertile. I guess Alocasia macrorriza can't pollinate Alocasia amazonica as they are different species.

Hello,

A. x amazonica is a hybrid (polyploid?) and possibly it doesn't produce pollen, but the female flowers are the most probably fertile.

Greetings,
Araceum

Hi

Christmas morning I was greeted with a shower of pollen from A. macrorhiza but none from amazonica. I collected the pollen as the female flowers were no longer sticky and put in a Phil in the fridge with drying crystals and hope it will produce another flower
