Pepe/Conservation

I received the following from Mr. George Norris. Many of you might know
him... I have edited out some of the more opinionated remarks...
Dewey

DOESN'T HE REALIZE THAT EVERY PLANT HE HAS IN HIS COLLECTION WAS ORIGINALLY
OBTAINED BY COLLECTING. EVEN IF HE HAS NO COLLECTED PLANTS AND OWNS ONLY
SEED GROWN PLANTS, THE SEEDS ULTIMATELY CAME FROM A STUD PLANT COLLECTED
AND USED TO PRODUCE THE SEED.

IF THESE PLANTS ARE NOT COLLECTED AND PUT IN THE HANDS OF PEOPLE LIKELY TO
REPRODUCE THEM, THEN THESE PLANTS HAVE NO FUTURE AT ALL. HABITAT
DESTRUCTION HAS REDUCED PLANT POPULATIONS TO THEIR CURRENT LOW AND IF THESE
FEW REMAINING PLANTS ARE NOT HARVESTED THEN SOON THERE WILL BE NONE.
COUNTLESS NUMBERS OF ORCHIDS, AROIDS, FERNS AND BROMELIADS ARE NOW EXTINCT
IN THE WILD DUE TO HUMAN EXPANSION.

CITES' ATTITUDE IS NOT TO PERMIT COLLECTING BUT IT IS ALRIGHT TO SLASH AND
BURN THE HABITAT AREAS. HUGE DAMS ARE BEING BUILT THAT WILL FLOOD MILLIONS
OF ACRES WHERE VARIOUS PLANTS LIVE BUT THE SALVAGE OF THESE PLANTS IS
ILLEGAL. WHAT SENSE DOES THIS MAKE?

FREQUENTLY TWO COUNTRIES SHARE A COMMON SPECIES. ONE COUNTRY PERMITS THE
LEGAL COLLECTION AND EXPORT AND THE OTHER COUNTRY WILL NOT. WHO IS RIGHT?

CITES WAS A TREATY TO PROTECT ANIMALS LIKE THE SIBERIAN TIGER, THE RHINO,
THE ELEPHANT AND OTHERS DUE TO POACHING AND OVER HUNTING. THE PART OF
CITES PERTAINING TO PLANTS WAS AN AFTER THOUGHT AND POORLY THOUGHT OUT.AT
THAT. NOW IT IS JUST A GROUP OF INTERNATIONAL BULLIES, COERCING COUNTRIES
TO BECOME MEMBERS AND THEN TELLING THEM WHAT THEY CAN AND CAN NOT DO WITH
THEIR OWN RESOURCES.

JUST TELL YOUR FRIEND TO ENJOY THE PLANTS HE HAS AND TO THINK ON HOW THEY
WERE OBTAINED.

THIS IS WHAT I WOULD TELL YOUR LIST.

GEORGE
