Dear Aroiders:
 
          I just wanted to send out an announcement that the time is soon
approaching when you need to register for the Xth International Aroid
Conference in Nancy, France.  The deadline for early registration is March
31st.  I am sure that many of you intend to go but like me have forgotten
about this deadline.  The price is 85 Euros but will then become 100 Euros
after the 31st.  This is really a good deal if you consider that it covers
the cost of the meetings, as well as Breakfasts, coffee breaks and
lunches.  Please remember also that they are making cheap accommodations
available at the University housing for only 22 Euros.  Nancy is very easy
to get to.  Just take the train from Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris to
Gare 'l Est, then go by bullet train to Nancy.  We will have more explicit
schedules available before you arrive.  For those of you who attended the
1999 International Aroid Conference here in St. Louis, the conference we
held in Kunming, China or the conference we had in Kunming, Sarawak I
don't need to emphasize how much fun this will be but I think that this is
something you should not miss.  Nancy is a marvelous city, small enough to
get around in quickly yet filled with mystery and fun things.  The Nancy
Botanical Garden and the adjacent University are really wonderful places. 
I was astonished with the aroid collection when I first went there the
first time and it is even better today.  The banquet for the conference
will be held in the famous Hotel de Ville, the fabulous residence of the
city government on Place Stanislaus, one of the wonders of Europe.  The
palace is akin to Versailles Palace near Paris.  It will be a memorable
event.  So make plans to attend and be sure to register for the conference
before March 31st to save 15 Euros.  We have a educational 3 days of
presentations planned and a trip to the Vosges Mountains to visit the
beautiful gardens of Chitelet and Calla palustris populations.  There will
no doubt be many of our European aroiders present for the first time.

have missed this on the first sending or for those you who might not have
saved it or lost it.  Check out the details of the conference, the
schedule of papers and the social events and act on this right away.
