Dear Mary jane,
Multiple leaves in phalloid seedlings is indeed not a rarity. Even young
plants after their first dormancy may still do this but usually this
behaviour subsides when the plants get bigger. Notable exceptions are
the species from the paeoniifolius alliance. These sometimes produce two
leaves when mature and then get VERY big! I think also bulbifer may do it
when mature.
Cheers, Wilbert
