For me an easy way to made a differenciation is the thickless of the
leaves.Colocasia
have mostly  soft leaves,alocasia have more thick leaves,including the more
soft leaves of the genus(for what i know).The texture of the leaves seem
also different and i have never had the trouble for the differentiation
about the 2 genus!But in all way,both seem really  botanicaly near...
