Does anyone know the original source or reason for the designation = 'Atropurpurea' for the purple-spathed form of Pinellia tripartita? I = note Wilbert also picked up this epithet for his variant of Pinellia = ternata referring to it as "Atro-purple." Unless I'm misreading the = botanical Latin, the translation is "hideous purple" (Atro =3D hideous, = terrible or cruel). Just wondering why. Clarence
