The Bulldozed Garden Club Gets a New Member

Some of you met longtime community gardener and activist Jon Crow at the ACGA
conference last July. This went our over the NYC cybergardens listserve a
few minutes ago and refers to the NY Times piece I forwarded you earlier
today on the latest Brooklyn CG bulldozings.

 Dear Ann Thompson,

We sadly welcome you to the Bulldozed Garden Club.
We're a union of damaged gardeners who have seen our
hard work plowed into a surreal pile of rubble. What
took decades to create is savagely destroyed in a matter
of minutes, leaving you feeling equally assaulted.
We're a club that doesn't seek new members, but has
them forced upon us. Seeing your picture in the Times,
wandering amid the ruins of your former paradise, brought
back all the pain and sadness each of our club members
 have experienced.
No garden goes quietly, and yours made a resounding noise.
So many people around the city felt your pain, shake
their heads and wonder why a city so desperately in need
of beauty and nature could do such a thing.
The Future Leaders Garden will be fondly remembered
 and sorrowfully missed.

Jon Crow, Bear's Garden, plowed 1997

p.s. Helen, please stay out of our club!
