"Mike McGrath" <MikeMcG@PTD.net>> quoted respected bat-expert Dr. Tom Kunz:
"Everybody sitting down out there? Good. Because while bats do eat some mosquitoes, it isn't enough that you'd notice any level of control."
OK, so that story about the bat bridge in (was it Austin?) Texas, which was built partly to shelter bats a decade or so ago, is wrong? Or those bats were the exception? As I recall, the story was that the bat bridge revitalized the whole area along the river because the mosquito-eating bats made it possible for diners to sit outside and enjoy the balmy night air unbitten. All the folks flocking to the riverside restaurants, so the tale went, enjoyed watching the bats nab the skeeters.
