Betsy,

This is a great group! Query: Has the ACGA reached out to have a "community garden" button put on their search engine? Some of our CGs are quite sophisticated in terms of their plantings and should be included in their database.

ASSOCIATION GETS A NEW NAME

As part of its continuing mission to serve and strengthen public
gardens throughout North America, the American Association of Botanical
Gardens and Arboreta (AABGA) has officially changed its name to the American
Public Gardens Association (APGA).

The change was approved by the organization's Board of Directors
at its Annual Conference in July, 2005 and information about the change, and
enhanced member services, is in the process of being shared with the
Association's member organizations, related organizations, and with
individual members.

As APGA President David Barnett and Vice-President Christopher
Dunn noted in the December, 2005 APGA Newsletter, when the name change was
proposed in 2004 and member feedback requested, "the overwhelming majority
of comments received favored a simpler and more inclusive name." A broad
diversity of organizations are represented by APGA and the name change was
approved to reflect this fact.

The new name also reflects the APGA's revised membership structure, with new
categories of institutional membership, and improved benefits for both
institutional and individual members, including professional development
opportunities, enhanced online services, and research studies that will
provide valuable information to our members.

Watch the APGA website at www.publicgardens.org as well as
upcoming issues of the APGA Newsletter for more information about the
exciting changes that are coming to APGA over the coming months.
