  Position: Executive Director

Organization: Gorman Heritage Farm
Contact: Search Committee

Description: Purpose: The Executive Director of Gorman Heritage Farm (GHF)
will provide leadership and direction to assure the continuing development and
financial stability of programs, facilities, and properties of GHF. The
Executive Director is responsible for delivery of goals as agreed upon with
the Board of Trustees.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Leadership- 40%:

Develop, recommend, and implement strategic planning goals, annual fund
raising goals, and strategies for GHF; manage, monitor, and report progress
Recommend, administer, and interpret policies and procedures for the operation
of GHF, in collaboration with Associate Director.
In conjunction with staff, prepare and maintain annual GHF operating budget.
Communicate regularly with the Board of Trustees on performance vs. annual
Develop and present recommendations to the Board of Trustees on staffing
levels and changes, personnel assignments, wage and salary administration,
employee benefit programs, and personnel policy.
Uphold the mission, values, and operating principles of GHF.
Foster regular and effective communication between and among all GHF staff,
Board of Trustees and appropriate board committees.
Ensure that GHF maintains compliance of contractual requirements in the
operating contract between the Village of Evendale and GHF Foundation.

Fundraising and Community Outreach-40%:

Represent GHF before community, civic, environmental, agricultural, and
educational organizations locally, regionally, and nationally.
Coordinate along with appropriate GHF committees annual membership campaigns
and both annual and planned giving campaigns; actively participate and
collaborate with the Foundation committees and the Board of Trustees in
capital and special event campaigns including identification, cultivation,
solicitation, and stewardship of gifts.
Evaluate, develop, and implement fundraising strategies such as major gifts,
direct mail campaigns, in-kind donations, individual donations, solicitation
of corporate gifts, grant writing, etc.
Foster strong personal relationships with major donors and their families.
Implement private fund-raising programs and outreach in concert with GHF Board
of Trustees.
Maintain strong public relations with civic and government organizations,
including attendance at public meetings to speak on issues of importance to
Maintain GHF member/donor database.


Meets with supervisory staff regularly in order to assure effective planning,
goal setting, and implementation of programs and modification of strategy as
necessary. Also maintain regular communication with all GHF employees.
In collaboration with Associate Director, assure high level of professional
skill, support professional growth, foster staff morale and assess
organizational needs.
Select, direct, develop and evaluate the performance of Associate Director,
Education Manager and Event Manager. Collaborate with Associate Director in
other staffing decisions.
Manage and collaborate with Associate Director, Education Manager and Event
Manager in support of their individual goals and responsibilities through out
the year.
Attend Board of Trustees and Executive Committee meetings. Insure appropriate
staff representation on Board Standing Committees. Serve as Staff Liaison to
Board of Trustees.

Supervision and Direction Received: General direction from the Board of
Trustees President and Board of Trustees members.

Supervision and Direction Given: General direction to all direct staff reports
along with appropriate direction to other GHF personnel.

Qualifications: Education/Experience: Baccalaureate degree in science,
environmental science, education, or equivalent experience is desired.
Master's degree preferred. Five to seven yearsb experience managing or
directing in a non-profit or environmental organization preferred. Experience
in fund raising and budget management.

Other Skills and Abilities: Collaborative leadership style. Good written and
oral communication skills. Proficient in public speaking. Knowledge of local
natural history and environmental education. Ability to relate to people of
all ages.

Licenses/Certifications: None required or preferred.

Physical Demands: This position requires the following physical activities:
pushing, pulling, climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching,
sitting, standing, walking, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive
motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity. The work is performed indoors in
an office environment and outdoors in nature preserve and farm environments.
Local travel is required. Some travel to national and regional conferences

Equipment Operated: Personal computer, computer monitor, keyboard, copier,
telephone, facsimile machine, and other equipment normally found in an office
environment. Operation of some outdoor maintenance and farm equipment may also
be required.

Additional Information: When a GHF vehicle is not available, the use of
personal vehicle may be needed for GHF business with mileage reimbursement at
the IRS recommended rate.

These job responsibilities represent only the essential and most significant
duties of the position. This job description does not exclude other work
assignments, directives, and responsibilities not mentioned herein.
