Subject: [cg] Searching for great organic gardens for TV series - A Few Questions
Dear Paid, or on Spec Film Project Coordinator,
Friend - This enquiring, long-time (30 years plus) organic community
gardener has a few questions, and would be quite interested in getting answers -
please - before answering your query.
This listserv gets lots of offers all the time - so I'm sure that others on
this listserv have the same questions that I have. Your candor alacrity in
response to this request for information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanking you in advance for your cooperation,
Adam Honigman
For starters: You're getting money and a career credit for this project- what
do you and your producers offer gardens that put up with the inconvenience of
a media crew in their gardens? What's in it for gardeners who will have to do
horse-and-pony shows for your cameras during the height of season?
First question - Have you joined the American Community Gardening
Association? You found this listserv through the website - an individual membership would
show that you are actually interested in trading wampum for wampum. Or are
you looking for a freebie for your production company?
Second question - what are you prepared to offer as an up-front
contribution to the American Community Gardening Association for using this forum to make
money for yourself and your production company, as well as the eventual
syndication dreams that have to circle your head like dancing sugarplums?
Third question - what is your track record? What have you done in media, who
are the people who are working with you? PBS, The Rodales and other reputable
medial organizations have reached out on this listserve before, and come
forward with their bonefides - up front. Who are you, who is your producer, who are
you pitching your project to?
Great organic gardens exist all over this country - and gardening really
exists without being a televised event - really. What are you and your
organization willing to provide, up front and in contract to promote the American
Community Gardening Association and the betterment of community gardens throughout
the United States and Canada -
Ya see, there are some truly amazing organic gardens in Canada - that you
should be pitching to as well.
Subj: [cg] Searching for great organic gardens for TV series Date: 11/30/05 5:50:39 PM Eastern Standard Time From: keizi@mindspring.com To: community_garden@mallorn.com Sent from the Internet Hello gardeners, I've just joined this list serve in an attempt to make contact with one or more among you who might help further the cause of promoting sustainable gardening practices to the American mainstream. I am working with a producer to develop a TV series for cable. The subject is green design: homes, gardens and communities designed to be sustainable. We have already completed a pilot/promo shot in the Bay Area and are in the last phase of putting our written pitch together to try to sell it to a cable network. Our goal is to frame things in a way that will reach out to more of a mainstream audience. It's a kind of introduction for many people that have no idea of the concept. Rather than a 'how to' it's mainly showcasing the great things happening now all across the country. We need to present our potential ideas for the series and one of the things I'm lacking are some great gardens to showcase. I personally feel passionate about community gardening and certainly want to use a few, but I think we need more diversity for this particular series. We need projects that are special and inspiring! So here are the things I'm looking for: ___ beautiful organic home garden (can be edible, ornamental, permaculture, biodynamic etc) ___ " roof top garden ( non commercial) ___small neighborhood community garden ___urban community garden The regions where we are planning to do the shows are: 1. The Bay Area 2. Los Angeles 3. Portland, Oregon 4. Santa Fe, Taos area 5. Austin, Texas 6. Denver, Colorado 7. Chicago, IL, 8. Kansas City, MO 9. Atlanta, Georgia 10. Sarasota Florida 11. Charleston, South Carolina region 12. Washington, DC 13. NYC We we are open to anyplace within about 100 miles or so of these regions. I would be very grateful for any help or even the name of a contact person in any of these regions whom I might call. Thanks! Kay Richardson Project Coordinator Design For Life 415-830-0903
