2003 POST-DOCTORAL AWARDS
(NEW
THIS YEAR)
International Research Awards Programme in Urban
Agriculture
AGROPOLIS is an International Research Awards Program that
supports
innovative research in the field of Urban Agriculture.
Starting this year,
the AGROPOLIS Program will offer up to two (2)
post-doctoral awards to
promising researchers who have obtained a Ph.D. in
urban agriculture or in
a related field and who wish to specialize further
in their field.
This year's themes:
We would be particularly
interested in applications focusing on any of the
following
themes:
a) Quantifying the contributions of the Urban
Agriculture sector to
national and urban economy
b) Managing Health
Risks associated with Urban Agriculture
c) Urban Planning and Policies for
Urban Agriculture
d) Land Use Planning, tenure and Urban
Agriculture
Number of awards:
Maximum of two.
Amount of
funding:
A stipend of CA $ 40,000 per award will be granted, and up to CA $
15,000
will be added for travel and research related expenses. Candidates
may
apply for a renewal of funding for a second year of field work if
the
nature of the research requires a second season of
data
collection. Renewals will be the exception and are provided for
those
disciplines that may need to deal with the uncertainties of growing
seasons
and climatic characteristics that affect data
collection.
Duration of award tenure:
Up to eighteen (18)
months.
Location of research:
The research should be focused on a
developing country and the field
research conducted
there.
Eligibility criteria:
-
Citizens of developing countries, Canadian citizens or permanent
residents
of Canada
- Doctorate completed within
the past five years
- Good record of
research and publications
- Affiliation
with a university or a research institution in a
developing country or in
Canada
Applications:
The following documents should be submitted by
the applicant:
- a cover letter
with full contact address
- an abstract
of the research proposal
- the research
proposal (approx. 20 pages double spacing, font 12,
not inclusive of
bibliography)
- the budget for the
research proposal indicating research and
travel
expenses
- a current
curriculum vitae which should include
publications
- two references with
name, title and up-to-date full contact
address
- academic transcripts -
originals
- proof of
citizenship/permanent residency
- a
letter of support from institution of affiliation
Conflict of
Interest:
In order to avoid any conflict of interest, the candidates are
expected to
work full time on their research and should not be receiving a
salary from
another organization.
Selection of candidates:
The
Agropolis International Advisory Committee will review proposals and
select
successful candidates.
Deadline for applications:
Applications must
be received by the Program Initiative no later than
January 31, 2003.
Awards will be announced by the end of May
2003.

Programme international de bourses de recherche en agriculture
urbaine
AGROPOLIS est un programme international de bourses de recherche
qui appuie
des propositions novatrices dans le domaine de l'agriculture
urbaine. À
compter de cette année, le programme AGROPOLIS octroie deux (2)
bourses
post-doctorales à des chercheurs prometteurs ayant obtenu un
doctorat en
agriculture urbaine ou dans un domaine connexe et qui
souhaitent se
spécialiser davantage dans leur domaine.
Les thèmes de
cette année :
Nous sollicitons tout particulièrement des candidatures axées
sur un des
thèmes suivants :
a) Mesure des apports du secteur de
l'agriculture urbaine à l'économie
nationale et urbaine
b) Gestion des
risques pour la santé associés à l'agriculture urbaine
c) Planification
urbaine et politiques en faveur de l'agriculture urbaine
d) Planification
de l'occupation des sols, régimes fonciers et
agriculture
urbaine
Nombre de bourses :
Les bourses sont au
nombre de deux, au maximum.
Montant de l'octroi :
Le montant de
chacune des bourses est fixé à 40 000$ CA et un supplément
maximum de 15
000$ CA est octroyé au titre des déplacements et des
dépenses
connexes. Les candidat(e)s peuvent solliciter un
renouvellement de fonds
afin de poursuivre leur recherche sur le terrain au
cours d'une deuxième
année consécutive si la nature de la recherche exige
le recueil des données
pendant une autre saison. De tels renouvellements
constituent une exception
et sont admis dans les disciplines assujetties
aux aléas des saisons de
croissance et des variations climatiques qui
affectent la collecte des
donnés.
Durée de jouissance de la bourse
:
Jusqu'à concurrence de dix-huit (18) mois.
Lieu de la recherche
:
La recherche doit avoir pour cadre un pays en développement où elle
se
déroulera pour une grande partie.
Critères d'admissibilité
:
- Ressortissants de pays en
développement, citoyens canadiens ou
ayant statut de résident permanent au
Canada
- Doctorat achevé dans les cinq
dernières années
- Antécédents reconnus
de recherche et de publications

Affiliation à une université ou à une institution de recherche
établie dans
un pays en développement ou au Canada.
Présentation des demandes
:
Le(La) candidat(e) doit soumettre les documents suivants

coordonnées personnelles
- résumé de la
proposition de recherche
- proposition
de recherche (env. 20 pages à double interligne, 12
points, à l'exclusion
de la bibliographie)
- budget afférent
à la proposition de recherche et ventilation des
dépenses de recherche et
de déplacement
- curriculum vitae
actualisé faisant mention des
publications
- deux références et leurs
coordonnées (nom, titre et
adresse
complète)
- relevés
universitaires (original)
- certificat
de citoyenneté / de résidence
permanente
- lettre de soutien de
l'institution d'affiliation
Conflit d'intérêts :
Afin d'éviter tout
conflit d'intérêts, les candidat(e)s sont censé(e)s se
consacrer à temps
plein à leur recherche et ne devraient être rémunéré(e)s
par aucun autre
organisme.
Sélection des candidatures :
Le comité international de
sélection d'Agropolis examine les propositions
et choisit les
récipiendaires des bourses.

Les demandes doivent être reçues par l'Initiative de programme, au
plus
tard le 31 janvier 2003. Les octrois seront annoncés avant la fin de
mai
2003.
