Community Garden AmeriCorps Member Job Opening

Salary
$5.83 Hourly. Educational award of $4,725 upon successful completion of
1,700 hours within the first year of service for college, student loan, or
trade school.

Requirements
High School Graduation or GED or will obtain High School Diploma or GED
within the first year of service as an AmeriCorps Member. Must be at least
17 years of age. Must have reliable means of transportation to work site and
a valid drivers license.  Hours: Flexible between 8AM- 5PM, Monday-Friday
including some evenings, holidays and weekends as assigned. One or Two -Year
Employment Duration.  May work fulltime or part-time.

Description
Assists Park and Recreation Department staff in recruiting, training and
providing resources to community groups such as neighborhood associations,
schools and community centers in the establishment and maintenance of
community gardens. 

Experience or knowledge in the following areas considered a plus:

Community gardening, urban agriculture or horticulture knowledge and
experience

*	
Community development/community organizing experience

*	
Knowledge of program planning

*	
Excellent facilitation, organization and communication skills

*	
Familiarity with and connections in the Des Moines community 

*	
Computer skills

*	
Ability to speak Spanish or Vietnamese
