Applications are due by Feb. 3 for this year's Urban Roots community gardening training program.
The nine-week course, which begins Feb. 18, educates Wayne County residents about community gardening strategies and how to maximize production.
Classes will be 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays at American Indian Health and Family Services in Detroit, with one session at Belle Isle and Earthworks Garden.
The cost is $75; some scholarships are available.
In addition, applications will be available Monday for the Detroit Garden Resource Program -- providing seeds and vegetable and herb transplants for residents of Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park. It's $10 for families and $20 for community gardens.
