When Smith Street was reconstructed, the contractor did the same thing
to several trees between 1st Place and 2nd Place - and it took me
several years to get them replanted (even with meetings with the City
Council rep and the Forestry Dept.) The problem is that the City signs
off on the contractor because noone can see the damage, and then a year
later the tree dies, and noone wants to accept responsibility.

It's a shame that the trees in front of 75 Henry had to be taken down,
but the contractor is clearly at fault. I have seen the pictures of the
very deep trench dug when the anchoring roots were severed. There was
no need at all for the work to be done in this way. A very professional
ISA Arborist and professionals at the Parks Dept. all concurred that the
construction crew had made the trees a liability.
