I had heard some stuff, but being in Manhattan, I don't believe anything I hear, and half of what I see, generally, and as it's on the left coast, I'm not a source.  But you might have get a sense of what happened from the coordinator of the nearby Oakland Community Gardens -

As it's part of their Parks and Recreation system, it might be a balanced view.  However,
It would probably be best for you to make a block of time to take a Jet Blue flight out to SF and walk and see. Because community garden problems tend to be really personal, you may have to poke around the gardens themselves to get the whole story.

Does anyone have information on events that have resulted in SLUG's
downturn?  I used to be in touch with SLUG staff and others but left the
Bay Area a few years ago.  I am including some information on SLUG in a
book that is about to come out, but am dismayed to learn that SLUG has been
reduced to a 0 staff organization that is no longer maintaining the
community gardens in San Francisco. I've heard rumors and I've looked at
some old newspaper clippings, but anyone who has lived through the crisis
would be very helpful to talk to.
