9TH ANNUAL SOUTHEAST BIODYNAMIC GARDENING CONFERENCE SCHEDULED FOR SEPT. 24-26
The 9th Annual Southeast Biodynamic Gardening Conference and Harvest Festival will be Fri., Sept. 24 through Sun., Sept. 26 at the Long Hungry Creek Farm in Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee. This year's keynote speaker will be Trauger Groh, the founder of the Community Supported Agriculture Movement in the United States.
The three days will also include intensive workshops with Jim Fulmer, director of the biodynamic certification program form Oregon, Harvey Lisle (retired soil scientist) from Ohio, Eric and Cher Smith of Bugtussle Farm CSA, and Long Hungry Creek Farm's 'The Barefoot Farmer' Jeff Poppen.
Six homegrown gourmet meals are included in the conference price.
Farmers, horticulturists, alternative health care practitioners and organic food enthusiasts from across the country gather at the farm each autumn to explore the fascinating world of biodynamics, which was initiated in 1924 by the philosopher/scientist Dr. Rudolf Steiner. He recommended farming with compost instead of artificial fertilizers. Biodynamic farming combines practical methods for integrating soil, plants and animals into a self sustaining farm, as well as incorporating the spiritual element and homeopathic preparations to create extraordinary compost, high quality produce and a pleasant farm atmosphere.
Lectures on nature spirits, meditation, alternative health care, Waldorf education and the biodynamic preparation will also be offered. Pre-registration is appreciated. Camping is available and children are free.
