Check out your flower beds and see if there is rodent problem or if a well
meaning gardener planted catnip in them. 

Fencing works for some. We got perturbed by some nocturnal feral cats who
climbed over our fences, but they do wonders with our mice and rats -
organically. 

Go figure.
