Bees in the Garden

Thank you, all, for your stories about raising bees in your gardens.  I asked the question for my gardening daughter in Northampton, Ma., and she sent your experiences to her community garden committee and they ok'd her request. 

However..... her friendly bee keeper reminded her that bears love honey and that bears do make their way thru the Northampton garden periodically, so.... will she surround her hives with electrical fencing?  Will she give it up?  Anyone have thoughts on bears in the garden loving up the honey?  Thank to all - have a great spring, and how about 1 million people in Rome protesting the war in Iraq!?
