CALL FOR PROPOSALS FOR WORKSHOP S
Annual conference of the Community Food Security Coalition
âA Decade of Community Food Securityâ
Milwaukee, WI October 17-19, 2004

Proposal deadline: Received by May 15

The Community Food Security Coalition seeks proposals for workshop sessions at its annual conference in Milwaukee, October 17-19 on the following topics. Please provide proposals for entire 90 minute workshop sessions rather than for individual presentations

Topics
â Local food systems and urban agriculture  (and innovative growing systems)
â The role of enterprise and entrepreneurialism in Community food security
â The state of research and evaluation on Community Food Security and Community Food Systems
â New and innovative alliances and approaches to community food security
â Farm to school, farm to college and other farm to institution programs
â Connecting health, nutrition, food, and agriculture
â Food and farm policy from the local to the global
Session format
We encourage innovative formats and interactive sessions that provide opportunities for participation. We also encourage sessions that lead to a specific outcome, and that are linked to the activities of the Community Food Security Coalition, or to building the food security movement.

Audience
Expect a very diverse audience in terms of occupation. They include anti-hunger activists, policy-makers, farmers, emergency food providers, faith-based community representatives, environmentalists, community based organization activists, community residents, community gardeners, nutritionists, extension agents, sustainable agriculture activists, food system and food security organizational representatives, chefs, researchers/academics, students, funders, and others engaged in building a sustainable food system.

Session details
All sessions will be 90 minutes in length. Expect approximately 30-50 attendees per session.

Format of proposals
Please use the following format in your proposal.

1. Name of contact person, organization, address, city, state, zip, phone, e-mail.
2. Name and organization of other presenters in your session.
3. Session format
4. AV needs
5. Title of session
6. 200 word description of the session, including main points and goals. Include learning goals for the audience.
7. A 50 word description of the session. If accepted, this write-up will be included in the conference program.
7. Brief bios of presenters (one paragraph or less only). No resumes or multi-page CVs please.

You may fax or e-mail  (preferred) your proposal. Please save it as an rtf file.

Registration Fee Discount
Presenters will receive a 50% discount on their conference registration fees. Up to three persons per workshop will receive this discount. All other fees and travel costs are the responsibility of the presenter. Additional registration fee waivers may be available in the form of scholarships.

You'll Hear Back From Us Soon
Submission of a proposal is not a guarantee of its acceptance.  All proposals will be reviewed by a planning committee. Notifications of your proposal's status will be provided by June 15. Contact us if you don't hear back by then.
