Hi, Anna!
You're doing a great job keeping the list going. I would not allow through
the plant-specific questions -- since you're getting so many of them,
perhaps a generic e-mail that thanks them for their interest, invites them
to join the list when they involved with a community garden and then refers
them to websites such as GardenWeb and/or newsgroups such as rec.gardens and
rec.gardens.edible or even the Mallorn e-mail list site (since they host so
many other plant lists, several of which DO handle specific plants requests)
would do the trick -- it give them the guidance they need and keeps the list
here for community garden concerns.
Another note to new subscribers urging them to look through the archives for
the answers to basic questions might also be helpful. Most of us have
answered the "basic" questions several times over the course of being here
-- if folks have a refinement on those questions, based on their own
situation and a reading of our experience, it will be easier for us to help
them more specifically.
Just my thoughts. . .
