11th annual- RITES OF SPRING: PROCESSION TO SAVE OUR GARDENS

WHERE AND WHEN TO HELP:

* PAGEANT: SAT, MAY 19 @ 8/9AM @ FORSYTH & BROOME
(just below DELANCEY @ SARA D. ROOSEVELT PARK

* (also save SUN MAY 20 -in case of rain)

* REHEARSAL -(helpful if you can make it) SAT MAY 12- 12pm
@ LA PLAZA GARDEN -9th ST Ave C (sw cor.)(until 1pm)

* WORKSHOPS ARE EVERY WED 6-9pm & SAT 1-5pm @ 638 E. 6th Street

* WE NEED VOLUNTEERS AVAILABLE FOR FRI. MAY 18: 12-4pm to help fold
programs, make floral wreaths, and move puppets. Let us know of all

For 11th annual PROCESSION TO SAVE OUR GARDENS  MAY 19 (raindate: May 20)
day-long procession visiting 45 gardens
with giant puppets, spectacular costumes. music, performance, dance, and
poetry.

ROLES TO FILL:
3- Videographers
50- garden puppet volunteers
1- bike rider
10-butterfly children (ages 3-11)
10-Recyclers- children/teens (ages 7-16)
5- hand out Program volunteers

WITH SPECTACULAR PUPPETS, COSTUMES, PERFORMANCE, MUSIC, DANCE, & POETRY

The 11th annual Rites of Spring: Procession to Save Our Gardens is a
day-long procession visiting the network of over 50 East Village community
gardens. The pageant features a procession of spectacular garden costume
characters, giant puppets, musical bands, performance, dance and poetry
celebrating these magnificent oases and their struggle to survive in the
city.

Earth Celebrations is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to fostering
ecological awareness through the arts.  Since 1991 Earth Celebrations has
been collaborating with Lower East Side gardeners to preserve their
magnificent network of over 50 community gardens through innovative and
creative projects. Earth Celebrations programs include:theatrical pageants,
artist residencies, art exhibitions, video programs,web-site, and
educational art & ecology workshops for youth and adults, through various
neighborhood schools, community, centers, and gardens.
