8 HOUR PAGEANT VISITING OVER 40 LOWER EAST SIDE GARDENS
WITH SPECTACULAR PUPPETS, COSTUMES, PERFORMANCE, MUSIC, DANCE, & POETRY

The 11th annual Rites of Spring: Procession to Save Our Gardens is a
day-long procession visiting the network of over 50 East Village/Lower East
Side community gardens. The pageant features a procession of spectacular
garden costume characters, giant puppets, musical bands, performance, dance
and poetry
celebrating these magnificent oases and their struggle to survive in the
city.

PAGEANT FEATURES:
Hungry March Band, Ginga Pura-Samba Band, 21 Divisions-Band,
Dancers: Octavia Cup Dance Company, Layla Isis Ellison,
Opera Singer-Jewl Mosteller/ Orator-Pat Russell
Musicians: Kochek Swaminathan, Elizabeth Avery, Ilya Temkin, Brooke Fox,
Zoran Madzirov, Mackie Snee, Carlucci,
Poets: Steve Dalachinsky, Savannah Skye, Karen Zusman,Marcia Newfield,
Sarah Ferguson, Cenen, Fred Baer, Zayda Rivera
Flying Butterfly-Steve Jones/Terry Lattimore
& hundreds of gardeners, volunteers, artists, children, costume performers,
and puppet marshals.

Earth Celebrations is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to fostering
ecological awareness through the arts.  Since 1991 Earth Celebrations has
been collaborating with Lower East Side gardeners to preserve their
magnificent network of over 50 community gardens through innovative and
creative projects. Earth Celebrations programs include:theatrical pageants,
artist residencies, art exhibitions, video programs,web-site, and
educational art & ecology workshops for youth and adults, through various
neighborhood schools, community, centers, and gardens.
