Gardening project gets $500 boost

The West Omaha Garden Club is donating $500 to City Sprouts, a community gardening project that began in north Omaha.

"This will be our largest donation this year," said Paula Swerczek, the club's co-president.

City Sprouts was started eight years ago by volunteers who wanted to improve the Orchard Hill/Bemis Park neighborhood. The nonprofit organization now works with neighborhood groups, gardeners, volunteers and students to create gardens on several neglected vacant lots in the inner city.
