DUTIES:
The incumbent of this position serves as the Coordinator of the USDA Community
Gardens Initiative.  The goal of the Gardens Initiative is to build
public/private partnerships to significantly increase the number of and to
expand the size of existing community and school gardens. In this capacity,
coordinates the efforts of the U. S. National Arboretum and various USDA
agencies, other Federal agencies, national nonprofit groups, and the private
sector in the design and implementation of a national gardening action plan.
Additionally, the incumbent oversees and coordinates the work of the USDA
State Community Gardening Coordinators in each of the states and territories
and provides the State Coordinators guidance, advice, direction, technical
assistance, and policy clarification.
