Yes, Dogwood Anthracnose is everywhere. Around here, they are encouraging everyone to plant Redbuds which do have lovely lavender flowers in the Spring and as they are native to the region, are disease-resistand and tough as nails.
Folks, however, want dogwoods, so nurseries are trying to develop new varieties that are more disease-resistant, so if you really want to replace a dogwood, you probably can.
