 "Landscape Architecture and Community Design"

at

Chautauqua Institution

Nestled on the shores of Chautauqua Lake in southwestern New York State,
this picturesque community known as Chautauqua Institution evokes the
friendliness and charm of a bygone era. Chautauqua offers an astonishing
array of summertime programs that make this National Historic Landmark a
world-renowned center for lifelong educational, recreational, artistic
and religious pursuits.

The historic Athenaeum Hotel at Chautauqua Institution, celebrating its
125th anniversary in 2006, welcomes all members, staff and state
affiliates of the American Community Garden Association and will offer
Special Group Rates for selected rooms during our nine-week summer
season. The Athenaeum Hotel continues its tradition of operating on the
American Plan. Daily room rates include meals, applicable state and
local taxes and gratuities.

We especially invite you to visit during Week Four, which will feature
expert presenters like James van Sweden, noted gardening author and
co-founder of the New American Garden Style. He and other experts will
be presenting this week on the topic:

"Landscape Architecture and Community Design."

July 17 through July 21, 2006

Chautauqua is a community noted for its landscapes, historic
architecture, beautiful gardens and overall community design -- the
confluence of the built and natural environments in service to an ideal.
This week will examine the interplay of architecture, landscape and the
natural environment in the design of new and the renovation of older
communities. Speakers will consider how a community reflects its
cultural context and manages progress, preservation and designed growth.
From the development of a residential landscape to the urgent national
issues of urban and regional renewal, this week promises a blueprint of
fresh ideas.
