JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

Program Coordinator --Community Supported Agriculture in NYC- Full Time
Position

Background
Just Food is a New York City non-profit organization that works to develop a
just and sustainable food system in the NYC region.  We currently seek a
full-time Program Coordinator to coordinate and further develop an already
successful CSA program.  The CSA in NYC program connects Northeast regional
farmers with New Yorkers - providing farmers a stable committed consumer
base, and urban New Yorkers access to fresh, affordable, healthful produce.
Just Food focuses on starting CSAs that emphasize participation and
ownership by low-income community members.

Responsibilities
This is a mid to senior level management and organizing position.

The CSA Program Coordinator reports directly to the Executive Director and
takes the lead role on further developing and coordinating the program
through the following activities:

Develop annual and 3-5 year program plan;

Supervise AmeriCorps VISTA Member, other CSA program staff, interns and
volunteers;

Further develop, strengthen and coordinate the Farmer Advisory Committee and
the City Advisory Committee;

Conduct and further solidify the outreach, application, selection and
partnering processes for farmers and city groups;

Plan and facilitate group trainings and larger meetings/conferences for NYC
CSAs;

Further develop creative approaches to make CSA appealing/accessible to
low-income communities;

Write press releases, articles and conduct public presentations for meetings
and conferences;

Conduct and develop additional mechanisms for program evaluation;

Provide technical assistance, support and troubleshooting to ~25 NYC CSAs;

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years organizing and supervising
experience.
Organizing, participatory facilitation and public speaking skills required.
Agriculture/food systems background and a knowledge of NYC neighborhoods
preferred.
Strategic planning and collaborative project development skills required.
Ability to work well in teams with diverse groups across race, class, and
urban/rural divides. Experience in working with low-income community
members.
Extremely good communication and “people” skills.
Strong writing and word processing abilities.
Be self-guided, highly organized and creative and able to juggle multiple
complex tasks.
Bi-lingual Spanish/English strongly desired.
Willingness to travel within NYC and in the region required.
Some after hours and weekends required.

AmeriCorps VISTA -- Full time position

Background

VISTA Member for our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program.  The CSA
in NYC program connects Northeast regional farmers with New Yorkers -
providing farmers a stable committed consumer base, and New Yorkers access
to fresh, affordable, healthful produce.  Just Food focuses on starting CSAs
that emphasize participation and ownership by low-income community members.
Responsibilities
The VISTA member will work closely with Just Food’s CSA Program Coordinator
to improve Just Food’s capacity to increase low-income participation and
ownership in CSAs throughout the city through the following activities: ·
Organize and facilitate trainings/orientation for community organization
staff developing CSAs in their communities; ·
Provide one-on-one technical assistance to community organizations
coordinating CSAs;
Conduct outreach to media and support organizations to publicize CSA; ·
Write press releases, articles and conduct presentations on CSA; ·
Assist Community Food Educator in coordinating food education workshops,
classes and cooking demos; ·
Organize and coordinate meetings to evaluate the program; ·
Conduct outreach/presentations to organizations interested in starting CSAs;
·
 Skills needed:

Bachelor’s degree required
Enthusiasm and willingness to learn about community health/food access/small
farm livelihood
      issues-  knowledge of food systems issues is preferred;
Organizing skills and experience in working with low-income communities a
must.
A knowledge of NYC neighborhoods preferred.
Ability to work well in teams with diverse groups across race, class, and
urban/rural divides.  Extremely good communication and “people” skills.
Strong writing and word processing abilities.
Be self-guided, highly organized and creative.
Bi-lingual Spanish/English strongly desired.

Stipend $826/month ($9,912/year), plus basic health insurance and an end of
year education award of $4,725 or $1200 year-end stipend.
