Executive Director Position Announcement
The Board of Directors of Wasatch Community Gardens is accepting
applications for the position of Executive Director. We are looking for an
individual who is energetic, highly motivated and committed to the mission
of the organization.
Mission: Wasatch Community Gardens is a community-based nonprofit
organization serving Salt Lake's inner-city neighborhoods since 1989.
Wasatch Community Gardens cultivates individual growth and neighborhood
unity through community gardening and youth gardening education. In our
Youth Gardening Program, inner-city young people grow, sell and donate
produce, learning responsibility, commitment and cooperation. We create
partnerships with other organizations serving inner-city youth in order to
integrate organic gardening education into their education and social
service programs. In our Community Gardening Program, adults and families
grow fresh vegetables for themselves or others in need.
Responsibilities:
Management and oversight of youth gardening program serving 800
disadvantaged youth annually and community gardening program serving 100
adults annually
Management and oversight of all aspects of fundraising, public relations and
event planning
Supervision of 3-5 staff members
Development and administration of annual budget
Oversight of financial and statistical reporting to relevant government and
granting agencies
Oversight and coordination of capital campaign for and construction of
new building to house office and teaching facilities
Oversight of four community garden properties
Qualifications:
Strongly prefer a bachelor's degree and minimum of 2 years administrative
experience, including nonprofit management, grant writing and preparation
and administration of budgets
Ability to manage multiple priorities
Strong planning skills and the ability to develop strategies and goals to
support WCG's mission
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
Sound decision-making and problem solving skills
Ability to lead and motivate staff and volunteers
Strong team-building skills
Ability to interact professionally with a broad range of people from diverse
backgrounds
Good working knowledge of computers
Must enjoy the diverse duties associated with management of a small and
growing nonprofit organization
Compensation and Benefits: Compensation will be commensurate with
qualifications and experience. Starting salary $30,000 - $35,000, health
insurance, life insurance, paid holidays and vacation
