Tickets: $ 10

Purpose of this Fundaiser:

Proceeds will be used to campaign for permanent community gardens on the NYC
owned Clinton Urban Renewal Area ( 50th - 56th Streets, 10th - 11th Avenues).
Anticipated expenses include legal and design fees.

History:

Oasis 1 and Oasis 2 Gardens were founded in 1979 on rubble-filled NYC owned
lots. Under NYC's Greenthumb Program, volunteers had access to
tool/plant/seed-give-aways and workshops --- intoducing experienced gardeners
to beginners. Until recently, Oasis members have paid a nominal fee for
month-to-month leases, extended at NYC's pleasure.

Future:

The land occupied by Oasis 1 will become part of a larger site for affordable
senior housing. We hope to preserve and expand Oasis 2.

Purpose of Oasis Gardens:

The gardens are maintained by volunteers to beautify the neighborhood. The
spaces help unify disparate community groups while encouraging diversity of
expression. Oasis 1 & 2 are safe, open areas where people of all ages work
and play.
