Hi Peter,
These are called in English Long-Tailed Mealy Bugs (Pseudococcus
longispinus).
Check out page 109 of David Jones' Encyclopaedia of Ferns.
Control by spraying with a mixture of maldison and a suitable strength of
white oil (see p 99). Systemic sprays such as dimethoate are also
successful. Methylated spirits dispensed on the end of a cotton bud also
works on isolated animals.
