Re: Prunus abhirtella "Higan"

The upright variety. There are some really old ones in a park across the street from where I work...and they are beautiful. They almost look like the live oaks down south where the branches come down low to the ground, but they are BIG. Lovely trees.

Jesse,
I checked the name a bit further. Prunus subhirtella is the botanical name
for the Higan Cherry. 'Higan' is not a cultivar, but a common name.
However, there are many cultivars of the Higan Cherry, so which one, or at
least which type are you interested in? There are pendulous varieties and
upright varieties. woodlanders carries one of each. Greer carries a
weeper. I'm sure there are others. The RHS Index devotes a bit more than
1/2 a column to them.
Kitty
