RE: Prunus abhirtella "Higan"


Whoa - that's gorgeous!  Now off to do a little research and see if I
can find a supplier. (If anyone is aware of one, please let me know). If
I'm lucky enough to do that, then I'm going home to find the perfect
spot for my Prunus serrula who shall be known by all the inhabitants of
my yard as Kitty!

I bet you could grow Prunus serrula (not to be confused with P.
serrulata). I fell in love with the bark on this one and attempted to
grow it but neIN was too cold for its hardiness.  I bet it would do well
for you as AHS says zones 6-8, whereas your P. mackii is zones 3-7. Just
take a look at the bark on this baby:
