Karen, what a beautiful cedar. What a shame to have lost its top since it appears to be extremely old. I have two battered ones that have been estimated to be about 150 years old. They are just about my favorite tree.

Thanks for sharing that.
I needed that.
I'd been watching Doves since March nesting in a hanging basket outside
the porch. One of the eggs hatched and for about three days
we could see the chick being fed and happily raised and all, but after some
swirly/twirly thing went through our yard last week, the poor little thing
was gone.
It took this tree with it as well:

The swirly/twirly went on to rip off the sheet metal of a structure 1/4 a
mile up the road, and then flatten a huge stand of trees. This was at 1:30am,
but luckily, no people were hurt!
The Dove parents are still around... I hope they try again!

Saw something pretty cool while out watering. A mama blue jay hopped in
her favorite birdbath and one of her fledglings hopped in next to
her (monkey see, monkey do). Well the little one just stood there, and the
mama splashed water on him. He kinda shook it off and stood there. She
splashed him again and I swear it was like you could see the little light
bulb above his head go on! Ohhhh, a bath, cool! So then both of them took
their baths and flew up to a low limb to shake and preen.
Anyway, it was pretty neat and I knew the bird lovers would like to hear
about it.
