This native seems to be considered an invasive in a number of places, Auralie. Which confirms my suspicion that "invasive" often means "a plant I don't like" to the list compilers. If it's major crime is that it seeds around to a level of nuisance in its native territory, then my vote for the number one invasive plant would be the southern live oak, which the native plant folks hereabout seem to slobber over here.

I think it's beautiful, too, Jim, but for some reason it is listed as an invasive around here. I can't understand it, because the water plants that are invasive in the areas I know are water chestnuts and pickerel weed. I don't remember seeing the Nelumbo lutea anywhere nearer than Nova Scotia. My problem, no longer being terribly agile, was/is getting close enough to the blooms to get a really good picture. For this one, I'd walked out as far as I could on the tops of cypress knees that more-or-less define the margin between swamp and upland.
