I've always wanted to live in the country, but I guess there are pros and cons everywhere. I guess I am suited more to my small lot situation, rather than having to deal with what you do Auralie. I'll just be patient and wait on this Monarda. My Mirabilises (is that the plural?) one tender and one hardy more than make up for the Monardas.

My 'Blue Stocking' is just now blooming - at about 2 feet. I always had a large mass of Monarda because the deer never touched it and it gave me so much summer color - until last year when the deer completely mowedit down. It has come back poorly this year - not much bloom so far. I have sprayed regularly with a rotation of three different sprays, and so far notas much has been eaten, but the Monarda didn't come back very strong. Itwas such a disappointment to have it eaten. Sorry, Kitty, but I still feelI am losing the battle. Auralie In a message dated 8/3/2009 9:00:42 PM Eastern Daylight Time, zemuly@comcast.net writes:Could it possibly be a very late bloomer. I know my old fashioned lavendermonarda quit blooming about a month ago, but the raspberry and the JacobKline are still going strong. I've got two new petit pink ones I've yet toget planted. We've had so much rain lately that cleomes and amaranth not seen in several years have come up and are blooming profusely. zem zone 7 West TN----- Original Message ----- From: "Kitty" <kmrsy@comcast.net>To: <gardenchat@hort.net> Sent: Sunday, August 02, 2009 2:54 PM Subject: [CHAT] monardasThis spring I planted a small division of my last year's Monarda 'Raspberry Wine'. Quite tall, it is broken but blooming. I also purchased and planted in the same general area at the same time Monarda 'Blue Stocking'. Its tag read 2-4 ft but is only about 15 inches but has branched out a lot on its own and seems sturdy - but no sign of any interest in blooming. Since I used the same fertilizer and planted inthesame soil, why would this one not even have a bud by now? Could it be that the grower loaded it up with a high nitrogen fertilizer? But wouldn't that be gone by now? I use natural fertilizer mixed in the soil and some additional Osmocote 6 month 15-9-12.
