My guess is that cats don't like the smell which is great since they haven't used that garden as a litter box in the past 2 weeks!! If there was only some way to keep that strong cedar smell going for months on end... I actually do like the smell, reminds me of my grandfather's cedar chest from when I was a kid. My vegetable garden area isall fenced off but it is about 40' or more on a side and there are gateson 3 sides. Long ago we ran small-mesh wire around the bottom of the fences to try and deter the rabbits, but they manage to get in anyway. Now we have some big shrubs and the sheep and horse corrals on the sides, it will be a lot harder to repair or re-fence all that. But maybe there are just one or two places they are getting through and we can figure out where they are.The wind dies down at night, and we see the rabbits at dusk and dawn, sothe scarecrow might work in a limited area. They are very sensitive, a bird or any movement will set it off. Also, you need to move it about, at least for deer, or it becomes ineffective. When you have deer you become less concerned with rabbits. The negative is it is connected to running water. I didn't get the connector in just right one time and we woke up to a flooded back yard however it beats anything I have used so far. It would be desirable to have more than one. The price has come down on these. I do use green plastic fencing to keep the rabbits from my lilys. The roll comes in approx 6' height. We cut it in half and then make cylinders to fit each clump of lilies. My plants are planted very dense and I havehundreds of cylinders but the fencing just seems to disappear. I leavethem in the garden all year round however the deer make a mess of them in the winter. My vegetable gardens are completely fenced so rabbits can not get in. We ran a heavy wire at about 4' height to discourage the deer.
