Daryl, No roomie... I had a junior suite courtesy of a move up by PPA. But, could not locate anyone to share the room with me. The suite was divided so that two could have separate rooms with bath for each, etc. Still, with room, eats for 5 days, drink or two, travel, cost me about $1,000 to do this one... could not do a GWA this close when flight would have been involved... just too much money with no real return on investment. Also time way from my business. I did not go on bus trips to gardens or nurseries as they begin 6:30 in the morning and get back 9:30 at night. Had to get up and speak next morning. Also I cannot handle that long a day. If you would like somewhat of a description of my trip it is on my blog for last week http://www.munchkinnursery.com/blog/five-days-fun/ I am a bit on the socially awkward side myself.... find it hard to network. Maybe when I get some joints replaced. The last few I went to were very tiring, even just walking through the hotel/convention center, not to mention all of the wonderful garden tours. If I'd known that I would once again be hosting a radio show, I might have gone again just for the contacts, even if I had to spend time on the bus instead of in the gardens, but I didn't find out it before the early registration closed and then we had the memorial service for my father the weekend before last. Just too much. Next year's GWA will be in Pasadena, and after that, Atlanta. When you attend PPA/GWA do you get a roommate? That really cuts down on cost and sometimes you meet some really nice people. I've only had one that I would never room with again - and that was mostly because she was a night owl and I'm a light sleeper. If I went on one of the photo tours I felt guilty for waking her and while she tried to be careful when she came in after midnight, a party at one of the grower's/publishers rooms was not exactly conducive to that. Tell us about PPA, please. d -----Original Message----- From: Gene Bush Sent: Sunday, August 10, 2014 8:22 AM To: gardenchat@hort.net Subject: RE: [CHAT] New plant GWA annual convention would be great to attend, Daryl But.. I went to Perennial Plant Assoc. symposium in Cincinnati, OH this past week for full 5 days. Could not afford to do both PPA and GWA back to back, even though paid to do 2 talks at PPA. Perhaps next year.
